Happy 4th of July Everyone!
Let’s talk about Freedom for a sec k 🙂
First off, let me say how proud I, Lauren Tesmer am to be an American….yes….even in today’s society..I am STILL PROUD! Mainly because my father was a pilot in the Air Force and my husband is a Marine so it was all I knew. Seeing the hard work that goes into the military will change you in the best of ways….respect…honor…discipline and integrity. So thank you to all of our Military out there who keep fighting for us to live in the country we do today….seriously…thank YOU! Wear that RED, WHITE and BLUE PROUD!!!
*******************************************************
There are always two or more sides to every story…ALWAYS. So the story we’re talking about today is your freedom from or too overeat this weekend/holiday.
Side #1: Set yourself up for success and make sure you have lower calorie foods that you can eat in higher volumes without racking in those crazy amounts of calories that we usually do through the holidays. Watermelon ( more fruits), Veggies (skip all the ranch and heavy cream dips) and maybe some pop chips or air-popped popcorn! There are always ways to still have a great time and not eat everything in sight. Don’t think they’ll be those types of food???? Bring your own! Be prepared or prepare to fail! What are your goals…..and how serious are you about them? When you usually want to overeat/binge there is typically more going on emotionally and mentally. Make sure your diet is balanced and you don’t see every get together as a “cheat meal” …..really try to focus on the quality of your company, drink lots of water and just practice some self-control. Yes, it’s hard….but it can be done if you are truly set on your goals.
Side #2: HAHAH I’m not heartless y’all!! ENJOY YOURSELVES. If you are super harsh on yourself and never let yourself “slip from perfection” …then maybe you need a day to just LET GO! Eat all the things and don’t look back. Just because you allow yourself to go crazy for one day DOES NOT mean you are an overeater and will never reach your goals. That is just a non-productive thought and is also untrue. Make the good decisions where you can, but also enjoy one of those sugar cookies and a burger if that’s what you really want to do. I wouldn’t recommend this approach everyday obviously, but realize you need to not be so harsh on yourself and correct some of those false thoughts…….here are some examples you may recognize.
-I will never reach my goals anyways so it really doesn’t matter what I eat today…
-I’ve worked too hard to slip up now, this one cookie could ruin my progress….
-All of that food is “BAD” and I will not allow myself to eat “Bad” foods…..
-No one will notice if I sneak another cookies…..right?
These are what we call UN-PRODUCTIVE THOUGHTS that will lead to a certain action. A cookie is not just a cookie to some people….and that’s okay. We are all in different places with our relationship with food. Please be honest with yourself and ask yourself why you think about food the way you do…what thoughts lie deep within that head of yours that trigger your emotions of guilt, disgust, pride, control after you eat at times or after eating certain types of foods.
Which side is yours this holiday weekend? Which side do you need? Need to step up your game and stop making excuses then maybe try your best to stick to the first one. Need to relax and let go for one day of your life, then maybe go with the second side. There is no right answer and there is no wrong answer!!!! Make your decision and own it, you are fully aware of the costs of over eating daily and know when you need more self-control. No one else truly knows what is going on inside your mind but YOU!
I will leave you with this little nugget of knowledge thought……if you have negative emotions associated with something then that is a sign you need to deal with something deeper down. Negative emotions are a GOOD thing because they promote exploration and change when it is needed. Don’t ignore them! Investigate them…..really….think and start challenging your thoughts……you might end up being surprised!
Hope you guys have a great (and safe) holiday and ENJOY the company that surrounds you!
Happy 4th of July and day of Freedom America!
